Kim Lacy is certified as an Iyengar Instructor through the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the U.S.  and has been teaching since 1991.

Kim took her first yoga class in 1983 at the Lawrence Art Center when she was a student at KU.  The teacher suggested she practice 20 minutes a day from Runner’s World Book of Yoga by Jean Couch, a student of BKS Iyengar.  She loved practicing daily, how it made her feel more quiet, centered, grounded, strong and open, and wanted to learn more.

She enrolled in the 2 year teacher training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco, which she stretched into 4 years before graduating and moving to Bellevue, WA to study with Aadil Palkhivala, an advanced Iyengar teacher.  She spent a month learning from the Iyengars at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India after which she became certified in 1994.

She attended classes and taught for years at Aadil’s studio Yoga Centers and Ingela Abbot’s Yoga Northwest in Bellingham, WA  before moving back to Kansas in 2006 where she has been teaching at Yoga Center of Lawrence  as well as privately.

Over the years she has taken workshops from many senior Iyengar teachers.  She currently takes virtual weekly classes from Abhijata  Iyengar,  Mr.  Iyengar’s granddaughter.

Kim hopes in her classes students will feel the benefits and possibilities of a yoga practice, learn how to use props to adjust the asanas to their individual needs, and be inspired and encouraged to explore their own practice at home.
